Garden Opening Event

On Saturday June 15th over fifty people turned out for the celebrations to mark the opening of the newly landscaped back yard at Sedbury Space.

The landscaping of the previously insightly tarmacadam yard was the final push on the makeover of Sedbury Space from neglected Youth Club to welcoming and accessible Community Centre and has made a fantastic difference to the appearance and usability of the space.

The ribbon was cut by Lady Bathurst, an ambassador for the Police & Crime Commissioner, who had made a grant for £1,000 towards making the space secure with new boundary fencing. Other grants were received from Gloucester County Council's Growing Communities Fund and the Tesco Bags of Help scheme, in which we came second in the public vote at the local Tesco store. An additional £1,500 was given by Chepstow Rotary Club towards planting and outdoor furniture to help make the space more welcoming and attractive.

The sun shone on the proceedings as people enjoyed the beautifully landscaped area. Entertainment of live music was provided by St Luke's Folk Club and visitors were fed with numerous scones baked by volunteers and jam and cream provided by Tesco.

The community garden will rely on volunteers for maintainence and all are welcome to potter in the garden, weeding and watering, dead-heading and replanting.
